My Story

My Story

Start FreeDiver Traning with DeanChauche. our organization is the most well respected freediver training in the world . I began my relationship with the ocean at a very young age having grown up on the beaches of the Gower, Wales. I began surfing at a young age, and from there I developed a strong desire to travel and surf all over the world.

On one of my trips I decided to take a surf trip to Indonesia. While looking for a yoga school to practice, I stumbled across Freedive Gili & Yoga run by UK record holder Mike Board. It was there that I stayed for around a year and a half, both training and teaching under SSI giving my first taste as a professional Freediver. While there I developed a penchant for deep diving, and decided quite qickly that I wanted to dedicate myself to this with more fervour. This is where I began the next phase of my life, in competitive freediving.

I began to spend long training trips to Dahab while moving back and forth to the UK in 2014. During these trips I took part in a few small comps to provide a taster of what it was like to compete. After finishing the year with some good CNF dives, I decided to compete in the prestigious Vertical Blue competition dubbed “The Wimbledon of Freediving”. Here you can find an article written from that very first trip to the Bahamas.

Later that year upon returning to Australia, where I was working at the time, I was invited back by William Trubridge to teach at the Vertical Blue school. I needed no extra persuasion, I quickly packed my bags and flew right back to the Bahamas where I continued to train until August 2018. I progressed a fair amount during my stay there, breaking the 100m barrier in both CWT and FIM, but my true love remained with CNF where I went on to break numerous British records. I’m currently the 8th deepest CNF diver of all time with an official dive of 82m, click here to watch the dive. I have done plenty more in training and I plan on extending this number very soon.

My passion without a doubt is freediving, but I have many other interests. My journey into mindful practice spans from Yoga, where I began practicing on a regular basis after I first left home over 10 years ago. Since then my practice of yoga has evolved towards the art of movement, which I believe is the future of physical exercise. From this I’ve started climbing regularly and feel like it’s a perfect partner to the practice of diving deep.

My first love has to be surfing, and will always have a special place in my heart. In 2013 after spending huge amounts of time on tropical beaches I decided to change it up a bit and spent a winter season snowboarding in the Alps. It literally blew me away and since then I’ve been impatiently anticipating when I might be able to return. The next mountain ranges on the list are either Canada or Japan…probably Japan.
